About

Bankoman Association is a broad-based organization combining citizens of Banko and its environs in the Asante Effiduase district residing in North America, for the purpose of fostering unity, friendship, and to cultivate better understanding through social and cultural interactions. It was also set up as a charity to help the Banko community and also to help its citizens in diaspora.

In April 1989, some elders from Banko (namely Nana Tuffuor of blessed memory, Mr. Dapaah-Ntiamoah, Mr. Steve Safo, Dr. Margaret Safo, Mr. Kofi Brefo, Mr. Benson Osei, Mr. Kofi Bismarck, to mention a few) felt the need to organize the Banko citizenry and its environs. They came together to discuss mutual concerns and building upon these informal meetings, the Association was borne.

The Association has been through several transformations. It operated successfully until the late 90s when it became dormant for several years, but was revived due to the sheer determination and commitment of some members. In 2010, the Association was fully revived and a new constitution was adapted. The new focus has proved successful with the rebranding of our greetings – “Abusua .., with the response, Cdc Nkoaa” reflecting our community ethos.

The Association continues to pursue objectives similar to those outlined in its initial constitution but with greatly expanded capabilities which include charitable donations. The Association was prominent in the electrification of the Banko Township and also for the improvement of the Oyoko-Nsuta road which passes through Banko.

The Association has now turned its attention to the health clinic which supports most of the small towns and villages in the area. In the year 2018, several donations which include computers, refrigerators, monitoring devices and other small items were made on behalf of the Association to the clinic. It has recently set its sights on providing transportation to the clinic. Members have contributed generously and solicited help from other areas, finally reaching this goal in 2020. For much of the early period of its history, the Association focused primarily on activities in the New York metropolitan area, but has now expanded geographically to embrace all states in the USA.

From here, we look to the future with confidence.
